Swimmers warned to stay ashore as storms whip up heavy winds

Eid revellers have been warned to stay away from beaches during the holidays, with storms and heavy winds expected to whip up waves as high as nine feet.

The National Centre for Meteorology and Seismology this morning warned swimmers and boat owners not to venture out to sea over the coming days.

“Weather conditions are unstable,” a spokesperson from the centre said. “There will be possible rain over most of the UAE, in some areas normal, and in other parts it will be heavy.”

This morning drizzling rain has been recorded over several regions in Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Ras Al Khaimah, and it is expected to spread over other parts of the country in the next few hours.

It is still unclear which areas will be mostly affected by the storms, the spokesman said.

Wind speeds across the coast will be between 20 to 35 kilometres per hour.
