Supporter says Shahin has been 'treated well' since returning to UAE

An American businessman who fled the UAE after being granted bail is reported to be in "good spirits" despite having returned to Dubai Central Prison.

Zack Shahin, extradited last week to Dubai from Yemen, has had access to his legal team and the US consulate, and "has been treated well since his return to Dubai", said James Jatras, a member of Shahin's defence team.

Mr Jatras said the situation with Shahin's local legal representation was still unclear.

Shahin had been in jail since March 2008 and went on a hunger strike in May, eventually being granted bail.
