The South Korean National Assembly's defence committee has approved a bill to extend the deployment of South Korea's military contingent in the UAE to the end of 2013. South Korea is currently operating a 158-member special forces unit in Al Ain. The unit is named "Akh," which means "brother" in Arabic. Since January 2011 the contingent has been training local troops in anti-terrorism and parachute infiltration as well as to conduct joint drills. Under the approved bill the unit will be stationed in Al Ain until December 31, 2013.
