Some 007 fans leave new Bond film in need of solace

It broke box-office records in the UK, taking nearly £5 million (Dh29.4m) on its opening day, but it has been panned by some film critics. Quantum of Solace, the 22nd James Bond film, has divided viewers. The film, which opened in UAE cinemas last night, has been criticised for having a muddled plot and uninspiring dialogue.

Some said it tried too hard to impress, while a critic for London's Sunday Times questioned whether it was "the most boring Bond film ever". Excited Bond fans in the UAE flocked to see the film last night, but many tended to agree with the comments of the critics. Emerging from a screening at Dubai's Mall of the Emirates Cinestar Cinema, Yousef Amin, 35, said: "It was disappointing. "I saw the last one and thought it was good, which is why I came to see this one. The script was pretty weak and the story was weak too.

"It was mostly just action sequences put together with little in between. Action is good, but you need something else." Steve Obama, 40, was similarly disappointed. "It was all right. I'm just about to phone my friend and give it six out of 10. "It was reasonable but not great," Mr Obama said. Jim Prescott, 16, said: "It was not the best Bond film, but it was OK. A bit short at one hour and 45 minutes, I thought."
