Sheikh Khalifa orders new 300km road network for RAK

RAS AL KHAIMAH // A 300 kilometre road network through 51 residential areas of Ras Al Khaimah is scheduled for completion in August next year.

Major roads in existing residential areas will be repaved and constructed in new neighbourhoods that are marked for new government housing plots.

Many existing residential areas have unpaved roads while the main roads in the emirate are pockmarked by heavy industrial traffic that passes through.

Phase One includes the building of 110 km of internal roads in the northern coast town of Al Rams and the southern neighbourhoods of RAK city. It is due to be ready next May.

The 118km network of internal roads for Phase Two will include the old RAK city neighbourhoods. Villages to benefit from the Phase Two works include Ghalilah, Sha'am and Shimal.

Phase Three will be a 72km road network that covers 26 areas, including the neighbourhoods of Digdaga, Al Asheesh and Al Hamraniya.

These are expected to be complete in August next year.

The projects were ordered by Sheikh Khalifa, President and Ruler of Abu Dhabi, and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces after a February tour by Sheikh Mohammed when he consulted with citizens about their concerns.
