Sheikh Khalifa orders aid for Kazakhs

The National staff

Emergency relief aid will be delivered to areas affected by extreme cold in Kazakhstan by order of the President, Sheikh Khalifa, and the Crown Prince, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces.

Electricity and power supplies were cut in the country as severe cold hit northern, eastern and central regions where temperatures dropped to -40°C.

The aid followed an appeal by the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent and the Kazakhstan Red Crescent Society, the state-news agency Wam reported.
