Sharjah man accused of kidnap and assault of school girl

SHARJAH // Police have arrested a man accused of kidnapping and attempting to rape an Iranian girl as she waited for her school bus in the in Al Nasseriya neighbourhood.

A spokesman at Al Heera police station said the suspect pulled the youngster into his car at 7am on Tuesday. The girl began screaming and managed to escape before running to her parents' house nearby, who called the police.

"Based on the complaint and description of the man provided by the girl, the suspect was arrested at his home the following day.

"He told officers he asked the girl to allow him to drop her to school. When she refused he decided to pull her into his car by force."

He admitted to officers that he touched and beat the girl in his car.

Officers have referred the suspect to the public prosecution.
