Saaed accident response service to be expanded to Sharjah

SHARJAH // The Saaed traffic accident response service is to be expanded to include Sharjah from early next year.

The service currently investigates minor accidents in Abu Dhabi, Ras Al Khaimah and Umm Al Quwain, instead of police patrol units.

The expansion was announced by Maj Gen Humaid Mohammed Al Hudaidi, the commander in chief of Sharjah Police. "The police administration have been impressed with the work they have done in Abu Dhabi in reducing traffic congestion and writing accident reports with efficiency," he said

He also announced the construction of four new police stations in the Seyoukh, Ramtha, Nouf and Wasta areas. A new headquarters will be built on Al Dhaid road to replace the building in Maysaloon.

Figures from Sharjah Police showed that last year, 707 traffic accidents were reported, with 117 fatalities. Maj Gen Al Hudaidi said the force was confident that when this year's figures are released next week, these numbers will have been more than halved.
