RSTW art exhibition comes to end

The grand finale to round off the RSTW art exhibition next week will include workshops, movie screenings and music performances.

ABU DHABI // A series of art workshops, a jam session, musical performances and three film screenings will draw the RSTW art exhibition to a rousing close on Monday.

The grand finale will follow four months of art and educational programming that attracted thousands of visitors from around the country.

A day of special events called Artscape, starting at 3pm on Sunday, will mark the finale.

The final event for the night will be a live performance by the UAE band, Takht Al Emarat.

The four-month exhibition, which has showcased some of the most recognisable artworks of the 20th century, was a major coup for the Tourism Development and Investment Company, which helped arrange the event.

The exhibition is one of the world's finest collections of contemporary masterpieces from the New York art dealer Larry Gagosian.

It alsoincludes one of Andy Warhol's famous multicolour prints of Marilyn Monroe.

Four Marilyns (1962) and Crushed Campbell's Soup Can (1962) are among the most recognisable pieces.

They join the works of Robert Rauschenberg, Ed Ruscha, Richard Serra, Cy Twombly and Christopher Wool in the exhibition, which is named RSTW, according to their surnames' initials.

"It is the first time I've opened up my home to show my personal collection of artwork that I hold dear to my heart," Mr Gagosian said at the opening of the exhibition in September.

Hind Mezaina, a 39-year-old Emirati art fan, said she was very impressed by the exhibition that was more than "just art work on wall".

"I went to the opening night, and one of the film screenings, which added a good element to the exhibition," she said.

"The space was different, there was an education element to it, it went on for months. This was all different."
