Royal welcome for Dubai's new police

DUBAI // Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, the Ruler of Dubai and Prime Minister of the UAE, and other dignitaries attended the graduation ceremony for Dubai Police Academy's 18th batch of officers yesterday.

Sheikh Mohammed inspected the newly minted officers at the academy in Al Sufouh. The 2010 graduating class included 11 master's degree graduates, one of them a woman.

During the ceremony, Sheikh Mohammed announced the launch of the "million-tree campaign", which was developed by the Dubai police chief, Lt Gen Dahi Khalfan Tamim. The campaign highlights the police department's projects to enhance the emirate's greenery and stop desertification. The projects were done in association with the Roads and Transport Authority, Dubai Municipality and the Zayed Environmental Award committee.

Guests at yesterday's ceremony also included Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed, the Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Lt Gen Sheikh Saif bin Zayed, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, and Lt Gen Tamim. Members of the consular corps and parents of the graduates were also on hand.
