Rough weather strands thousands of tourists in UAE

The UAE’s windy weather over the past few days has delayed the departures of luxury cruise ships containing around 8,000 passengers from Dubai.

Rough seas prevented the Costa Favolosa and MSC Lirica, which together have around 4,000 passengers, from sailing out of the Dubai Cruise Terminal at Port Rashid on Saturday, stranding the ships in Dubai.

Another two ships, Brilliance of the Seas, and Oriana, carrying another 4,000 passengers, were already berthed at the port and unable to set sail.

The National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology has predicted the weather conditions should be back to normal in the next two or three days, and the ships can return to their voyages.

Temperatures in the UAE have been the lowest so far this year due to the cold north-westerly winds.
