Rainfall across the UAE, with more bad weather expected

ABU DHABI // Scattered rain fell across the country yesterday, with more expected today. As showers continued throughout the day, puddles began to form on roads.

The National Centre for Meteorology and Seismology said the whole country saw light to moderate rain yesterday and will most likely again do so this morning.

As of yesterday afternoon, the maximum rainfall recorded was 2.6 centimetres over the mountains in Ras Al Khaimah.

Wind speed reached 50kph yesterday, but is expected to increase to more than 60kph over some parts of the country today.

Temperatures today and tomorrow will drop “significantly”, according  to the centre.

Yesterday’s top temperature was 25°C, and the lowest was 21°C in Abu Dhabi. Tomorrow, temperatures could reach a low of 8°C and a high of 23°C.

Weather on Monday will be the same, with slightly lower wind speeds. “The sun will be out, but it will be windy,” a spokesperson from the centre said.

He also issued a warning to fisherman about rough seas in the Arabian Gulf and the Oman sea.

He said drivers should be cautious of high winds and drive slowly as dust and sand would reduce visibility on highways.
