Lack of regular maintenance of split unit air conditioners was the cause of 12 out of 26 house fires in July and August.

Poorly maintained AC units blamed for Dubai fires

Poorly maintained air conditioners have been blamed for 12 fires in Dubai in the last two months, investigators have revealed.

Officials at the general department of criminal evidence and criminology at Dubai police said that a lack of regular maintenance of split unit air conditioners was the cause of 12 out of 26 house fires in July and August.

Mohammed Ahmed Abu Aitah, a fire specialist, explained that of the 13 house fires investigated last month, five were caused by faulty air conditioners - about 38 per cent of total incidents.

This month, air conditioners were behind seven out of 13 incidents - 54 per cent of all fires.
