ABU DHABI // The Foreign Minister, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed, yesterday urged the Egyptian ambassador to investigate "baseless" claims about the UAE in the Egyptian media.
Accusations that the UAE was engaged in plots against the Egyptian leadership were intended to damage the interests of the two countries and "their historic and special relationship", Sheikh Abdullah said.
At a meeting with the ambassador, Tamer Mansour, he spoke of the need for the Egyptian government to follow up on "these unfounded and slanderous fabrications which do not serve the fraternal relationship" between the countries, the state news agency Wam reported.
Sheikh Abdullah made clear to the ambassador the UAE's unwavering commitment to its principle of non-interference in the internal affairs of other states.
The two also discussed relations between the two countries and Sheikh Abdullah thanked the ambassador for his efforts to promote them. Sheikh Abdullah said relations between the two countries were strategic and based on solid ground.
