ABU DHABI // Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak's background in education should stand him in good stead for his new role as Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development.
Sheikh Nahyan was Education Minister for two years and Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research for more than 20.
As one of the more visible Cabinet members, he has a record of supporting issues such as the advancement of women and sustainable development, and is well entrenched with key community events.
Last October he opened the Family Businesses Forum in Abu Dhabi and was a keynote speaker at the launch of the first Abu Dhabi human development report, compiled by the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development and the UN Development Programme.
The report aimed to identify strengths and weaknesses within the Abu Dhabi community.
His support for the arts and culture has been consistent through his attendance at events ranging from film festivals to art fairs.
