Dubai hospital stay continues for Zardari
DUBAI // The Pakistani president, Asif Ali Zardari, remained in a Dubai hospital yesterday after treatment for what the consulate described as a pre-existing heart condition.
He arrived in the Emirates last Tuesday and has been staying at the American Hospital Dubai.Yesterday, well-wishers were turned away from the hospital by consulate staff.
"We just thought we would come and see the president but the consulate officer said he wasn't taking visitors," said Mohammed Iqbal, from Bur Dubai. "The man from the consulate said the doctors didn't want the president to see visitors because he was still recovering."
Yousuf Raza Gilani, the Pakistani prime minister, told the BBC on Sunday that Mr Zardari was likely to rest in Dubai for two weeks. Mr Gilani denied reports Mr Zardari had a mini stroke and said he needed medical attention because he was "exhausted". "That was the reason and now his tests are clear, and he is improving," Mr Gilani said.
