Police warn against drowsy driving

As part of its "Your Safety" drive, the Abu Dhabi Police traffic department today warned motorists against driving while they are tired.

The warning follows the release of statistics showing that six people have died and nine others were seriously injured in 28 traffic accidents in the capital that were caused by fatigue or falling asleep behind the wheel.

Col Hamad Nasser Al Balushi, director of external districts at the Abu Dhabi Police traffic department, said that fatigue weakens a driver's ability to maintain focus, and lowers the speed of their reflexes.

He urged motorists to observe traffic laws aimed at ensuring their safety.

He also encouraged motorists, especially those who drive for long hours, to park their cars in a safe spot on the side of the road and get some rest if they feel exhausted and unable to focus.
