SHARJAH // One person died and 15 others, including 10 children, required hospital treatment in two weekend outbreaks of food poisoning.
Four diners at an unidentified restaurant in Sharjah went by car to Kuwait Hospital suffering symptoms of severe food poisoning. One of the victims was dead on arrival at the hospital. The others were still receiving treatment yesterday.
"We have already reported the case to police and the municipality to do the investigations," said Dr Yousef Al Serkal, the hospital's director. The patients were aged between 40 and 55.
In a separate incident, also in Sharjah on Friday, 10 children and two teenagers arrived at Al Qassimi hospital showing signs of food poisoning after eating at a fast-food restaurant in a shopping mall.
They were all treated and discharged, except for one child who was still receiving treatment last night, said Dr Khalid Khalfan Sabt Al Ali, the hospital's deputy technical director. The child's condition was described as stable.
"We have collected food samples from this restaurant and our team are investigating," said Sultan Al Mualla, director general of Sharjah Municipality.
