Oman ruler Sultan Qaboos visits UAE

ABU DHABI // Sultan Qaboos bin Said, the ruler of Oman, arrived in the UAE yesterday for a two-day visit, WAM, the state news agency, reported.

He was greeted at Al Ain International Airport by Sheikh Khalifa, President of the UAE, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces.

Sultan Qaboos held talks with Sheikh Khalifa at Al Rawdha Palace. Both leaders discussed their views on the latest regional and international developments and ways to strengthen bilateral ties, according to WAM.

"This visit is a source of pride for the people in the UAE," said Sheikh Khalifa.

"The UAE harbours profound respect and esteem to the leadership and people of Oman".

Sultan Qaboos, who graduated from Britain's Royal Military Academy at Sandhurst before assuming the Omani throne in July 1970, said ties between the countries would see "steady progress in the coming period".
