No more extension of Emirates ID deadline as daily fines kick in

ABU DHABI // The deadline to register with the Emirates ID authority has now passed for all residents - except for some expatriates whose visas are due to expire before the end of the year.

The Emirates Identity Authority (Eida) announced yesterday that there would be no further rescheduling of its deadlines.

Anyone who has not registered will be fined Dh20 for every day they were late.

The fines are limited to Dh1,000.

Expatriates with visas issued in Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah due to expire before December 31, 2012 and expatriate children under 15 in all emirates with visas due to expire before then, are the only two categories of people who will not be fined. People in these two categories should register with Eida before renewing their residence visas.

It is hoped that the entire population has registered by the end of this year.
