New speed signs on Abu Dhabi-Dubai road

ABU DHABI // Abu Dhabi traffic police are to put up new signs on all external roads that identify the radar enforcement limit, in an effort to help drivers maintain a safe speed while commuting to and from the emirate.

The signs will be in addition to the speed limit signs, alerting drivers to the sudden changes of speed buffers. Implementation will begin in the next two months, said Brig Gen Hussein al Harethi, the head of the Abu Dhabi Traffic and Patrols Directorate He added that the enforcement limit will range between 160kph and 140kph.

The official speed limit for the majority of the Abu Dhabi-Dubai road is 120kph. However the current buffer allows drivers to reach a speed of 160kph, except in certain areas such as Shahama, where the enforced speed limit was recently reduced to 140kph.

Brig Gen al Harethi said signs will also be put up as drivers enter other emirates and the buffers drop, such as in Dubai, where the enforced speed limit suddenly drops from 160kph to 140kph.
