DUBAI // An indoor football complex is to be built in Al Barsha, the developer Dubai Properties Group has announced.
All of the fields at the complex, including four air-conditioned pitches with artificial grass, will be built to the exacting standards of the international football association Fifa.
The complex, which will also include outdoor fields and a gaming zone, should be completed by the end of 2015.
It will be spread over a one-hectare plot near Al Barsha South 3.
Dubailand has teamed up with sports project investors Corner General Trading (CGT) to build the grounds.
The complex is a much-welcome development for UAE football, says Tim March, former general coordinator for Sharjah Football Club.
Mr March said indoor and outdoor pitches were always in demand.
"Something like this will be a great hub and a focal point for getting these things out there," he said.
"If it's going to be a real game changer, it needs to be a centre where you have quality programmes and people who will connect with the community."
CGT is already encouraging players in Dubai to use its website, www.icorner.com, to search each other out, form teams and organise matches.
