ABU DHABI // Food inspectors will use new devices to ensure meat at butcher shops is safe.
The tools will help to uncover impurities, and poor storage and handling, the Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority (ADFCA) said yesterday.
Butchers in the capital have been hit with serious punitive measures in the past few months.
One instrument will measure the meat's internal temperature to prevent frozen meat being sold as fresh.
A laser tool will check heat in the shop and other devices will check the meat's moisture and acidity.
Inspectors will also use equipment to measure fat content in chopped meat, to check it complies with GCC standards.
A total of 280 warnings and 11 violations were issued to butchers in the first quarter of this year, many to old shops using old equipment.
