Mawaqif will tow illegally parked cars

ABU DHABI // All illegally parked vehicles in Mawaqif areas will be towed, effective immediately, the Department of Transport (DoT) announced yesterday.

Vehicles will be towed if they block access to legally parked vehicles; if they are parked on the pavement or on pedestrian pathways; if they are parked in areas where the kerb is painted yellow or the street is marked by yellow lines; if they are parked in spaces reserved for people with special needs, for emergency service vehicles, or for public transport vehicles; if they are parked in spaces allocated to mosque imams, hotels, banks, or governmental institutions; and if they are parked in waste-container spaces, construction zones, in loading and off-loading areas or in any other unauthorised areas.

Vehicles can also be towed if they are illegally parked for commercial purposes, do not have license plates, or are parked in permit-only zones without or a permit or with an expired permit.

According to the DoT statement, Mawaqif has the sole responsibility for parking management in Abu Dhabi and is the only authorised organisation for towing illegally parked vehicles.
