Man ordered drug 'spice' on legal herb website, Abu Dhabi court hears

A man accused of bringing the drug "spice" into the country has told the Abu Dhabi Criminal Court he ordered it from a legal herb website.

He said while studying in Canada he started ordering it from the website legalhebalshop.com.

The man is accused of ordering two batches of the drug, although the amount was not specified.

The UAE made "spice" illegal in May. The man's attorney, Faiza Al Moosa, requested the defendant's acquittal. She also asked the court to consider referring him to a medical committee.

The court did not give a date for the next hearing.
