Man deported for sex offence accused of trying to bribe his way back in

DUBAI // A Pakistani who had been deported for having consensual sex tried to bribe his way back into the UAE, a court was told yesterday. MI, 25, offered Khalid al Badwawi, an immigration officer, 100 Omani riyals (Dh950) to allow him through the border checkpoint at Hatta, between the UAE and Oman, prosecutors alleged. He was refused entry by Mr al Badwawi on January 8 after an iris scan flagged him as being banned from re-entry, according to documents at the Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance.

"He asked me, then he begged me to allow him to enter," Mr al Badwawi told prosecutors. "He offered me money and said he will pay any amount I asked." MI was remanded in custody until Sunday, when the court will deliver its verdict. @Email:amustafa@thenational.ae
