Maid 'cuts off employer's penis after being sexually harrassed'

DUBAI // A 35-year-old Bangladeshi maid was arrested by police after she allegedly cut off her 70-year-old employer's penis.

The woman said she had attacked the man with a knife after being sexually harassed.

Police said the woman was charged with assault, and the man would also be charged.

She was arrested at her employer's apartment in the Deira area early on Monday after police received a call for help from the man, who is from an undisclosed Gulf country.

The maid confessed her crime to police and was quoted as saying she was sick of being sexually harassed. She told police that her employer had asked for a massage and had begun harassing her. She became angry, so she took a knife and attacked him.

"The woman is currently in custody on assault charges," said Major General Khalil al Mansouri, head of the Criminal Investigations Department.

The man suffered serious injuries and underwent surgery. His condition was stable, police said. "The man will be charged with an attempt to commit an indecent act," Maj Gen al Mansouri said.

A police source, who asked not be identified, said the fact that the woman did not attempt to escape gave an indication of the credibility of her claims.

The case has been referred to public prosecution.
