DUBAI // The gravel-voiced British rock singer Rod Stewart will perform live in concert in the emirate on May 7. AEG Live Middle East announced the concert yesterday, with the 1980s-era British band Spandau Ballet opening the show at the Sevens stadium, which will be arranged to have a capacity of 20,000.
Stewart, who celebrates his Scottish heritage despite having been born in London, has sold more than 100 million albums. Now 65, he launched his solo career in 1969 and has become one of the most successful artists of his era. His hits include Maggie May, Tonight's the Night, Forever Young and Hot Legs. Last year's release, Soulbook, is a collection of classic soul favourites. "We have really been looking forward to presenting Rod Stewart live in concert," said Thomas Ovesen, the managing director of AEG Live Middle East.
"The show is amazing and includes all his greatest hits, songs most people will treasure and be able to relate to." Stewart stops in Dubai before going on to tour the UK, where he sold out 24 shows. Spandau Ballet's hits include Gold, True, and Through the Barricades. Organisers have not yet indicated when tickets will go on sale for the show. email@example.com
