Lorry drivers arrested for alleged drug sales on motorways

Police from Ras Al Khaimah and Abu Dhabi have arrested 10 lorry drivers on charges of dealing and using opium, officials announced last night.

Police have charged the drivers with selling narcotics to other lorry drivers and believe they worked on the nation's motorways.

The arrests were made across the country and the case has been referred to public prosecution.

Last year, Dubai Police reported that opium was among the most common drugs they had seized over a five-month period, behind crystal meth, heroin, cocaine, hashish and marijuana.
