Just 24 per cent of UAE residents recycle: survey

Just under a quarter of UAE residents recycle at home, a new international survey has revealed.

Canadian respondents were the top recyclers - 88 per cent of respondents said they had recycled waste the previous week - while Russia and Egypt were at the bottom, with only 15 per cent reporting they had recycled, according to the survey by the market research company Synovate.

Women in the UAE were more likely to have recycled - 28 per cent - versus the 22 per cent of men who reported recycling.

UAE respondents were much more likely to report having bought eco-friendly or organic products in the last week, with 35 per cent of respondents indicating they had done so in recent days.

That put the country in fourth place for that category, behind Denmark (59 per cent), Sweden (52 per cent) and South Korea (42 per cent).

The survey of 22,000 people ages 16 to 65 was conducted across 28 countries over three months last year.
