Jail for doctor who sold forged sick notes

Abu Dhabi // A doctor who forged sick notes and sold them for Dh500 each after losing his job at Sheikh Khalifa Medical City was sentenced to a year in prison and fined Dh50,000.

The Criminal Court of First Instance also ruled that AJ, from Sudan, should be deported following his jail term.

AJ used hospital stamps bearing his name that he collected before losing his job to create the certificates.

He also forged other documents and pretended that he was still working at the hospital.

He was caught in a sting operation by the CID following a tip-off. An agent posing as a customer was filmed paying Dh500 to AJ in return for a sick note.

AJ, who married 23 days before his arrest, claimed that the Dh500 was a wedding gift from a friend.
