iPhone 4s arrives in Emirates

Apple's latest smartphone, the iPhone 4S, has gone on sale in the UAE.

DUBAI // Apple's latest smartphone, the iPhone 4S, went on sale in the UAE yesterday morning to a warm but by no means fanatical reception.

Some three months after it was available in the US, where sales hit about four million in the first weekend, the device is for sale in stores and from du and Etisalat.

A customer care representative at du's outlet in Deira City Centre said the company had received "a lot of enquiries" about the phone on its first day of sale and a steady stream of purchases at Dh2,749 for the 16-gigabyte model, Dh3,199 for 32GB and Dh3,599 for 64 GB.

A customer care representative at Etisalat also said they were now selling the phone, with prices at Dh2,749 for 16GB, Dh3,149 for 32GB and Dh3,549 for 64 GB.

Aslam Khan, a marketing executive shopping in Deira City Centre, said he planned to buy one soon. "It is a sleek device with excellent features," he said. "I came to enquire about the price and the packages the telecom operators are offering."
