The satellite operator Yahsat will offer its broadband internet service, "Yah Click", via its second satellite in the first quarter of 2013, its chief executive said.
Tareq Al Hosani told The National's sister paper, Al Ittihad, that Yahsat had started testing Yah Click with remarkable success.
It has signed contracts with two independent providers, Sky-Stream and SAFA Telecom, to provide the service.
"The company's business and services will complement the services of Etisalat and du," he said.
Besides covering remote areas like oilfields and isolated regions, Yah Click will act as back-up in the event of a service interruption in the terrestrial fibre optic network.
