Indians in Dubai honour Mumbai attack victims

Hundreds of Indians gathered at the Indian High School in Dubai last night to pay tribute to the victims of the Mumbai terror attacks. Candles were lit at the school's Sheikh Rashid Auditorium in memory of the people who died and those who fought to protect the city. Schoolchildren and others stood together and took a pledge to uphold peace, social harmony and understanding. Speakers included Sheikha Lubna Al Qasimi, the UAE Minister of Foreign Trade, Venu Rajamony, Indian consul general and Mohammed Sharaf, chief executive of DP World, who was one of the people stranded at the Taj Mahal Palace and Tower.

Consuls general of other nations also expressed grief and lit candles. A week ago yesterday at least 15 heavily armed militants began three days of attacks in which 188 people died. pmenon@thenational.ae
