Husband of murdered Filipina businesswoman seeking answers

The husband of Lorna Lim Varona, a Filipina businesswoman in Dubai, said the family would visit the Sharjah public prosecutor on Monday for an update on the murder investigation.

Mrs Varona, 51, was found murdered on August 31, nearly a week after being reported missing. She had been stabbed at least six times. Police found her body stuffed in a bag in the boot of her car, a green Jaguar S-Type, in Sharjah's Industrial Area 11.

Yesterday, Pablo Varona, 65, met with a security officer at McDermott Middle East who had offered to help out the family to fast-track the release of Mrs Varona's body. A UAE-based lawyer who would be representing the Varona family has asked his daughter Maria Lourdes, 29, for the case number and other details.

"We've been asked by Sharjah police to wait for their call but we felt it's better to follow it up," said Mr Varona. "We hope to have a clearer picture on the case tomorrow."
