Umm Al Qaiwain vies for Guinness world record with outdoor gallery

More than 4,000 photographs of the UAE have been posted on a 300m wall in Khor Park in an attempt to create the world’s largest outdoor gallery.

UMM AL QAWAIN // An event in the emirate will be vying for entry to the Guinness Book of World Records tomorrow.

More than 4,000 photographs of the UAE have been posted on a 300m wall in Khor Park in an attempt to create the world’s largest outdoor gallery.

Residents have been pasting images reflecting the country’s heritage, history and landmarks since November 1.

The final photograph of Sheikh Khalifa was pinned up on Thursday by the Ruler of Umm Al Qaiwain.

“I have been thinking about this for a while,” said Mohammed Essa, who works in the emirate’s Police Station and came up with the idea. “I thought, ‘Everyone owns a camera and everyone has pictures of the UAE, so why not ask them to help put together a collage?’

“We have had young and old, Emiratis and Englishmen share their beautiful pictures and memories with us. But the Sheikh Khalifa one is my favourite.”

The initiative was sponsored by government bodies including the police, Emirates Identity Authority and Ministry of Culture and Youth Community Development.

Mariam Rabeaa, 17, said she loved that there was such a range of photos right from before the union, the wind-tower houses to the recent icons like the Burj Khalifa.

“I like, I like it a lot,” she said.

“Its different and everyone can admire them. My family has contributed some photos.”
