Sharjah bathes in a sea of colours

For one week of the year, Sharjah landmarks come to life in an explosion of colour and light.

Tens of thousands of people gather to watch the stunning sea-themed displays which turn interesting buildings into beautiful ones.

Some of the emirate's most recognisable landmarks are transformed by a combination of European and local artists known "for their expertise in the art of illusion".

There are 14 settings at the Sharjah Light Festival, two of which are on the East Coast in the towns of Kalba and Khor Fakkan.

The shows will run tonight from 7 to midnight, before a large finale event tomorrow to mark the close the festivities.

All shows are free.
