Rains are expected on Friday and again on Saturday, a forecaster says.

Heavy rain hits Fujairah and Northern Emirates

DUBAI // Heavy rainfall and flooding swept parts of Fujairah and the Northern Emirates on Wednesday, with more expected to fall today.

Although the heaviest rainfall was estimated to be 1.8cm, the rain caused dams to overflow leading to flooding in isolated areas, according to the National Centre for Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS).

The exact rainfall was not recorded, because the rainfall was spread widely across the emirate, from Hatta to the south to Ras al Khaimah in the north.

A forecaster said it was expected to rain on Friday and again on Saturday.

"Today it's expected for some convective clouds to accumulate over the same locations, and yes, it's expected to rain today," said a forecaster at the centre.

"Tomorrow, there's less chance, being only partly cloudy."

He said there was a chance for clouds to become "more intense" on Saturday, with the possibility of further rain.

The forecaster added that if the clouds were forming at noon, at the hottest time of the day, there was a greater chance for rain.
