ABU DHABI // A moose lasagne found to be contaminated with pork is not on sale in Abu Dhabi, the furniture chain Ikea has said.
The Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority confirmed yesterday that the company's products were free from pork.
The body said inspections had been carried out and the meat tested as soon as news of the contamination came to light.
Ikea has withdrawn 17,000 portions of the lasagne from its stores in Europe after traces of pork were found in a batch tested in Belgium.
"Soon after the news reached us, we inspected the restaurant and confirmed that the said product was not being served in Abu Dhabi," said Mohamed Jalal Al Rayssi, director of communication at the authority.
He said all meat imported to Abu Dhabi underwent stringent quality tests that could detect the smallest traces of foreign particles.
Ikea UAE said all of its products were halal and that its moose lasagne products sold here contained no traces of pork.
