Final date for expired cosmetics

ABU DHABI //Five tonnes of expired cosmetics and beauty products confiscated from salons in the past six months will be destroyed next week.

Abu Dhabi Municipality, which is responsible for 1,200 salons, is also cracking down on frequent violators and referring them to the courts for possible closure.

"Each salon gets visited about once a month," said Khaleefa al Romaithi, the director of public health at the municipality. "We first look at how clean it is, then at what's allowed. We do a random check, and then we check each bottle and each cream."

Salons found with expired products or those with no expiry date will be fined and subject to additional checks. The municipality is also planning to introduce evening inspections to target some salons that keep later hours.
