A nurse provides swine-flu vaccine in Abu Dhabi. Sammy Dallal / The National

2012 outlook for the Health Authority-Abu Dhabi

The Health Authority-Abu Dhabi (Haad) is to add vaccines to its immunisation programme this year. Although the new vaccines are yet to be confirmed, doctors in the capital are hopeful a vaccine for gastroenteritis, which affects almost all children at some point in their life, will be one of the additions.

Abu Dhabi will also welcome a new medical facility, with the women and children's hospital Dana Al Emarat due to open its doors in the next few months. The 200-bed hospital boasts a high-risk pregnancy unit and is the first hospital of its kind to open in the capital.

Haad has implemented a new quality rating system for hospitals across the emirate, and plans to announce the first results this year.
