Granite falls on three workers in Sharjah, killing one

SHARJAH // A construction worker died and two others were injured when a piece of granite fell on them at a work site in Industrial Area 13, police said yesterday.

The three men were working for a private company that specialises in marble, police said. They were carrying a piece of granite by hand to a lever hoist on Thursday when they missed the hoist, and the piece of granite suddenly fell on them, a police spokesman said.

"A police rescue team was called but one worker had already died. The two other workers were carried to Kuwait Hospital for treatment," he said.

The dead worker was identified only as KM, 40, of India. The injured workers were identified as SA of India and HH, 27, of Pakistan.

A team of police CID and forensic experts took evidence samples from the accident scene. Police were continuing to investigate with company officials and engineers, but no arrests had been made.
