DUBAI // Three people died and four were injured in four separate accidents on Dubai roads over the past week, police said today. A fourth person died in a fire at a construction site.
"One accident occurred at 3pm last Tuesday when two cars collided on Oud Maitha street, leaving one person dead, another moderately injured and a third with minor injuries," said Maj Gen Mohammed Saif Al Zafeen, head of the Dubai Police traffic department.
Earlier that day, a car hit a pedestrian on Ras Al Khor Road.
"The victim sustained moderate injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment," he said.
On Friday evening, a man from an Asian country was killed by a car as he was crossing Abraj Street, behind Mazaya Centre, "which is surrounded by a fence barring pedestrian crossing", Maj Gen Al Zafeen said. "He was rammed on the first lane by a Nissan Patrol driven by an Emirati man. He died at the scene."
On Saturday, another Asian man was run over and killed by a Peugeot on the Business Bay Road.
"He also died at the scene, while the driver got away with minor bruises," the official said.
In a separate fatal accident, a Filipino man died on Sunday at a construction site after the crane he was operating struck a power line and caught fire.
"The victim tried to put out the fire using the extinguisher but to no avail," Maj Gen Al Zaafeen said, adding that the victim died from severe burns that he suffered at the scene.
