ABU DHABI // Forty days of events have been planned in the build-up to the country's national day on December 2, which will mark 40 years of the United Arab Emirates.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, approved the programme during a ratifying ceremony yesterday.
The events, scheduled to begin on October 24, will be themed Spirit of the Union leading up to National Day.
The official website, www.uaenationalday.ae, was launched at the ceremony where Sheikh Mohammed unveiled the brand identity and the events lined up for the celebration. The website will include a breakdown of events throughout the country, registration details for key activities, partnership application details, background and historical information as well as news and real-time updates.
Sheikh Mohammed said celebrations would reflect on the history of the UAE's birth and its evolvement as a nation over the past four decades.
The 40th National Day logo was also unveiled during the ceremony - an image of unity from December 2 1971, the first congregation of the founding fathers, was used as the basis of its creative design. It carries a silhouette of the iconic image between the founding fathers of the UAE, led by the late Sheikh Zayed.
The programme will recognise the country's achievements and allow the community to reflect on the meaning of being Emirati or calling the UAE home. Individuals who positively contributed to the nation will also be commended.
Sheikh Mohammed added the celebrations would commemorate the rich heritage and multicultural society.
