Five sailors were killed and another injured on Monday after a gas leak on a tanker sailing to Dubai from Mangalore.
The leak occured in the compressor room of the MV Maharshi Krishnatreya, said the Indian directorate general of shipping.
The vessel's chief officer, gas engineer, a bosun and three seamen were repairing a damaged pipe on the liquified petroleum gas carrier when they inhaled the poisonous gas. The injured sailor was in a critical condition at a hospital in Gujarat.
An investigation is underway.
