Fireman hurt as blaze destroys Sharjah furniture factory

A fireman was injured yesterday while helping to fight a blaze that gutted a furniture factory in Sharjah.

Ahmed Khalfan Al Suwaidi was taken to Al Qassimi hospital's intensive care unit after a hot metal object fell on his right arm. He was in a stable condition and responding to treatment.

Brig Abdullah Saeed Al Suwaidi, the director general of Sharjah Civil Defence, said the Blue Castle Factory, in industrial area number 3, was full of flammable materials including wood and plastic. Nearby residents were told to leave their apartments until the warehouse had cooled down.
