Fire guts warehouses in Sharjah's Industrial Area

SHARJAH // A blaze gutted two warehouses and damaged 20 others nearby yesterday, causing millions of dirhams of damage. The fire is believed to have started in Industrial Area 13 opposite the National Paints building at about 11am, before it spread to neighbouring warehouses, many of which contained flammable, oil-based products. No one was hurt. The Al Badiya furniture warehouse and another warehouse belonging to the Overseas Lubricants company were both destroyed.

Dense smoke could be seen as far away as Al Qusais in Dubai and the industrial area in Ajman. Col Waheed al Serkal, the head of the Sharjah Civil Defence, said it took firemen from Sharjah, Dubai, Ajman and Abu Dhabi more than two hours to bring the blaze under control.
