Fines to be waived for many residents still without ID cards
The Emirates Identity Authority will waive the fines for Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah residents whose visa expires in 2012 and those who failed to get an Emirates ID card provided they sign up for the card when renewing their visa.
For those with expired cards, the renewal deadline has been extended to February 1 for Sharjah residents, April 1 in Abu Dhabi and June 1 in Dubai.
Since September, there has been a rush to start paperwork for ID cards after the authority announced that it would introduce fines.
