Filipinos in Dubai plan fundraiser for those hit by floods at home

DUBAI // Filipinos in Dubai are planning a fund-raiser to help their countrymen hit by the storms and monsoon rains at home.

On Monday, Typhoon Tembin moved slowly northwards off the northern tip of the main Philippine island of Luzon.

It brought heavy rains triggering landslides and flash floods before heading for Taiwan's east coast yesterday.

FilCom, which represents community groups in Dubai and the Northern Emirates, has already sent Dh10,000 to the Philippine Red Cross.

On Friday next week, it will hold a breakfast fund-raiser at the Asiana Hotel's Boracay Club. There will also be music and dance.

The breakfast, from 8am to 11am, costs Dh50 a head with proceeds going directly to Philippine flood victims.

For more information contact Wendell Castro, the team leader of FilCom's disaster co-ordination committee Task Force Habagat, on 055 539 8173, or at wtc.1925@yahoo.com.
