Faces of deportees scanned to stop them re-entering the UAE

The Ministry of Interior has collected 61,000 scans, or 'faceprints', of people who have been deported from the UAE since 2009.

"Faceprinting is a means to bar deportees from coming back to the UAE," said Capt Jamal Al Hosani, head of the technical affairs section at the ministry's general secretariat. A faceprint is an advanced scan of an individual, which is also used to identify wanted criminals.

"There are 50 devices that can read faceprints operating across the country, placing the UAE ahead on a regional level," Capt Al Hosani said yesterday.
